MARINO DI TEANA
Biographical note

Born in Teana, in Basilicat Province, South Italy near Potenza, on 8 August 1920.
At age 16, emigrated to Argentina as a mason.  
At age 22, construction site manager.
At the same time, he studied in the evening at the Salguero Polytechnical, Industrial, Mechanical and Architectural National School.
Entered the Higher National School of Fine Arts Ernesto de la Carcova in Buenos Aires via an entrance competition.
Graduated with the title of Higher Professor and obtained a professorship at that school.
Won the Premio Mittre, equivalent to the European Grand Prix de Rome.

Returned to Europe in 1952, settling in Paris.

Bring in in the gallery Denise René in 1956.
Denise René organizes several personal public exhibitions from 1960.
Since, He participates in numerous demonstrations of contemporary art in France and abroad:
Museums of Ixelles, Liège and Bruge in Belgium, Leverkusen, Frankfort, Munster, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Tel Aviv, Mineapolis.
He is present in gallery Stendhal in Milan, Redfern Gallery in London, Gallery Lahumière, gallery Claude Bernard and the Krings Ernst Gallery in Koln, Germany.

He is regularly represented to the gallery Attali in the 70s, then to the gallery Carlhian, gallery Dutko and ARTCURIAL in the 80s and 90.

He represents Argentina to the Biennal of Venice in 1982, and France in the International Symposium of the Arts and the Sciences of Seoul ( Korea) in 1997..


Acquisitions purchased for the collections of the museum of modern art of the city of Paris, the George Pompidou , National Modern Art Museum, The new Contemporary Art Museum MACVAL, several french FRAC ( National Funds for Contemporary Art ) Or famous collections like the L'OREAL or Francois PINAULT collections, The Marcel Joray collection in Switzerland, The Thomas NEIRYNK donation at the King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium.

Realization following competition, more than 50 monumental sculptures as much as 20 m high height (Paris/Fontenay sous Bois, Montpelier, Orléans-Chevilly, Canjuers Var). The sculpture "Freedom" in Fontenay is one of the biggest sculptures of Europe.

Numerous prizes including:
the premier prix de Saint Gobain awarded by a compound jury of Zadkine, Michel Seuphor and Alberto Giacometti for the artistic part.
the honorary diploma of the 14th Triennial in Milan, Italy
the silver medal from the international congress of architecture, awarded by Willy Brandt, in Bochum, Germany.
Two gold medals awarded by the Provincia di Basilicata and by his native village in Italy.

Appointed a member of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture of Argentina (Buenos Aires).
Medal of honour from the University of Seoul, Korea.
Received the silver medal from the general council of Val de Marne.

Grand silver medal awarded by the French Academy of Architecture for the body of his work.
Appointed Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.

Since 1955, has been a professor at the American university of art and architecture in Fontainebleau.

Lives and works in his atelier in Périgny sur Yerres (where the Dubuffet foundation is also installed).
